Points East Coastal Drive
Situation
Points East Coastal Drive is the eastern part of Prince Edward Island, and is known for beautiful vantage points, lush golf courses and pristine parks. Headspace was challenged with designing a very large website with thousands of pages of content, making it easy to use, and easy to access the most relevant information to the potential traveler.
Strategy and Solutions
We built the back-end with ExpressionEngine so the administrator can easily add and edit new pages, and cross-reference nearby attractions, accommodations and restaurants. We designed each category page as an SEO landing page, so that each page took advantage of the vast amount of content, for example, the category ‘Bed & Breakfast’ in ‘Places to Stay’ is optimized to be an SEO landing page for “Bed & Breakfast, B&B Prince Edward Island”. Another great feature is how we took advantage of Google Maps API to populate attractions with pins on a map, and some advanced Javascript allows the user to click on an attraction name in a list, which calls up where it is found on PEI. Cool stuff.
Perhaps the most challenging aspect of this website was utilizing the province’s XML Feed, enabling all operators on Tourism PEI to update their listing in the provincial database, and have the feed merge and update the database on Points East. This website is poised to set the bar for other the other Coastal Drives on the Island.
