Situation and Strategy
PEI Culinary is an organization formed to help position Prince Edward Island as a premium destination brand in tourism and their key food exports – lobster, potatoes, oysters and mussels. PEI Flavours is the overall brand of this initiative which will connect growers, producers, processors, chefs, restaurants, tourism operators and other culinary industry stakeholders through a single, united voice.
They needed a web partner to design and develop a sophisticated website to draw people to, which would allow them to find operators on the island easily, and plan the ultimate culinary visit.
Solutions
We designed a clear, usable interface and made beautiful photography front-and-centre. We built a sophisticated search tool within ExpressionEngine; On the Flavours Trail section, users can choose one or more Coastal Drives, and a category such as restaurants, artisan producers, farmers, fishers or culinary experiences, and the search result page will populate a map showing operators who fit that criteria. From there the user can choose an operator to learn more about and contact. The What’s in Season section allows users to view a table of food products, grouped by category, view when each product is in season, and click through to view search results of operators who carry that product.
The website pulls it’s operators in using the PEI governments’ XML feed, ensuring each listing is up to date, and our client can easily manage the website content using the ExpressionEngine content management system. All of this adds up to a website solution that will whet the appetite of visitors for years to come. Mmmm lobster…
