An essential ally in keeping all of your files accessible and organized, Dropbox is a file hosting service that can be a beneficial tool to any and all businesses! Sending and sharing information has never been easier and more secure, which is why Dropbox is this week’s topic of discussion.
It’s no secret that Dropbox has been around for a while. As one of the first cloud storage solutions to land on the market, Dropbox already has a formidable share of users and a growing suite of software designed to make digital faster and easier. If you’re already into Dropbox that’s great, but have you ever looked at the collaborative functionalities that it brings to the table? It’s easy to set up, and may just be the best solution for your business' website and efforts online. One can never have too much organizational assistance!
At its core, Dropbox acts as a mobile home for whatever files you need to access on the go. Once you’ve signed up and made a free account, it’s as simple as uploading files to folders the same way you would a folder on your PC (or Mac) and voila! The file is available everywhere you go. Better still you can indicate other users who have shared access to specific folders. It’s a collaborator’s dream!
Long story short Dropbox brings interconnectivity and efficiency to the table in a lot of accessible, intuitive ways. Unlike Microsoft and Google’s proprietary (and cumbersome) interfaces, Dropbox has mastered the art of mimicking the familiar experience of standard file management. Accessing and storing files should be this simple, even if the file in question is big – like really big.
That’s because the days of limited file sharing are all but behind us. Dropbox has plans that boast no file size limit, meaning those massive amounts of data you wanted to send to Marketing, the huge catalogue of assets your video team has been uploading, or the product info you store online won’t scare Dropbox.
Sharing externally is as easy as using a Dropbox link. Want to share your vacation photo album (who wouldn’t) with friends and family? Share a link to your ‘vacation photos’ folder and the gallery is completely viewable, without forfeiting the security or access to your folder. No zip folder, no hassle. Just click and consume. Easy.
But don’t let the simplicity of Dropbox fool you, the service it provides has a multitude of sophisticated options when uploading files, especially when you download the desktop app. One example is the comments feature, that allows whoever has access to your shared folder to start shared discussions on your files instantly. For Headspace, this means the immediate feedback that they so cherish when working with a client. It could mean that and more, for you!
Happen to be a Designer? Dropbox proves itself capable of handling and displaying an assortment of file types that Headspace staff use regularly. Just recently, support for Photoshop (.psd) and Illustrator (.ai) has been revamped by the Dropbox team. These files now have much crisper image previews, more accurate color matching, and give the user the ability to zoom without ever needing to download the file. Subtle features that make for a full experience. We’ve said it time and time again, if users aren’t considering your software while they use it, you’re winning.
When you open your around you’re given 2GB of free storage, upgradeable to 1 TB or unlimited based on your budget. For creative professionals, Dropbox may just be the number one choice for file sharing, and a necessity for keeping your work available to you no matter where you happen to be.
