What we do

We love working on all things web-related, but have the most experience with health-companies, e-commerce and software startups. Our focus is always on using inbound marketing to drive traffic, optimizing your landing page to increase signups or purchases, and delivering an amazing application that users want to come back to.

How we do it

Over the years, we’ve developed a pretty simple, but efficient process that allows us to design beautiful websites and applications while keeping projects on time, on budget and error free.

Tools we use

We can be fanboys, we’ll admit it. So while it’s true that we don’t rely on any one tool to get the job done, and things change fast, we’ve also taken time to learn what works and what doesn’t. Here’s a sampling of some of our favourite tools.

Development

ExpressionEngine is a powerful yet simple-to-use commercial-grade content management system (CMS) that empowers thousands of companies worldwide to easily manage their websites. We use EE as our CMS of choice, and make use of third-party modules as well as our own custom built ones. We even wrote the guide for clients that is widely used by hundreds of EE developers.

CodeIgniter

Our in-house coding tool-kit, CI is an open-source PHP framework with a light footprint. Meaning it gives us what we need without getting in the way when we need to create powerful, custom applications.

Beanstalk

A combination of version control mixed with web-based collaboration tools, and the ability to deploy multiple versions of software easily, Beanstalk is our central code repository that keeps our work safe and centralized.

JQuery

The de-facto Javascript library, JQuery and it’s many plugins allow us to create robust, interactive, beautiful web interactions that are cross-browser compatible. It’s AJAX library also makes for sleek transitions and intuitive functionality.

Design

Pen & Paper

Yeah, we know. Not very modern or techy is it? And yet it’s the simplest and most proven way of getting good ideas out there. Our motto is; If it can’t work on paper, then it can’t work in code.

Invision & Slickplan

Slickplan is a great tool for creating site-maps and user-flow charts, while Invision let’s us take our wireframes and design comps and quickly create interactive prototypes that clients can click through before a line of code is written.

Adobe Creative Suite

The time-tested, vetted and insanely expensive suite of Adobe products, such as Fireworks, Illustrator and Photoshop allows us take low-fidelity sketches and turn them into beautiful, breathing, high-fidelity designs.

Strategy & Marketing

Google Analytics

The gold standard in website traffic statistics, we intall GA on every site and can help you navigate the sometimes-confusing waters of GA to uncover what data really matters and can be used to improve your site.

Google Website Optimizer

Useful for conversion rate optimization, we use Website Optimizer to split our traffic and offer up variations on a landing page to see which version turns more clicks into customers.

SEO Moz

In addtion to being a great blog for ongoing learning about the ever-changing world of search-engine optimization, this app helps us run and manage SEO campaigns giving us helpful data around backlinks and keywords.

Campaign Monitor

CM is everything we could want and more in an email marketing tool. It allows our clients to log in and create campaigns from one of the templates we’ve designed, manage a subscriber list, view it in a variety of email clients, and then send out the campaign, receiving reports on open and bounce-rates, and a whole lot more.
